Entrepreneurs don't find time - they make it

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

One of the essential skills of life is how you maximize your time.

Fellow Canadian and international management expert Brian Tracy (www.briantracy.com) advises you should always concentrate on the most valuable use of your time. His extensive research proves that this is what separates the winners from the losers.

In Hal Urban's (www.halurban.com) tremendously enriching book, 'Life's Greatest Lessons - 20 Things That Matter,' he specifically describes the significant differences between losers and winners when it comes to time. Losers kill time, waste time, lose time, let time slip away, take time for granted, squander time, can't find time. Winners use time, spend time wisely, value time, organize their time, treasure time, schedule time, make time. Prioritizing time has been a challenge for entrepreneurs throughout history. More than two hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin wrote that time is opportunity and that in order to live fully, we have to learn to make the most of it. If we love life, he said, we'll treasure our time. We'll use it wisely. His famous autobiography is full of examples of how he mastered it.

Even though they don't teach time management in our schools, we now have more resources for learning about it than ever before. There are hundreds of books on the subject in addition to a wide variety of calendars and planners, as well as several software programs.

One example is Stephen Covey (www.stephencovey.com), the famous author of 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People' and the excellent time management book 'First Things First.' He places emphasis on spending quality time rather than simply finding out how to use time to be more productive. The greatest advice for time, especially for those of us who are blessed to live in the freedom of North America, is from time-efficiency expert Alan Lakein. He stated more than 35 years ago, and it still applies today, 'there is no such thing as a lack of time. We all have plenty of time to do everything we really want to do.'
